# Authentication and access

> Use partner keys and understand company access.

Send your partner API key in the `Authorization` header of every API request:

```http theme={null}
Authorization: Bearer <key>
```

A key grants specific operations and access to selected Ignite companies or all current Ignite companies. The hello endpoint requires the `hello:read` operation. The `companyId` in the request path must identify an Ignite company allowed by your key.

Keep keys in a secrets manager and send application requests from your backend. Do not include keys in support requests or shared documents.

The API reference playground sends requests directly from your browser to the selected API URL. Use a sandbox key for interactive testing; use your backend for production traffic.
